One week on from our Cummins Area School production of DreamWorks Shrek the Musical, and we'd like to take a minute to congratulate everyone involved!
What a truly magical adventure it was for those who came along and saw our talented and courageous cast on stage – singing, dancing and acting! Our swamp, also known as the school hall was buzzing with laughter, gasps, tears and immense pride. Our band of student musicians had the opportunity to perform live (and by goodness, did they perform), with the whole audience clapping and singing along! And a show like this can’t go on without its crucial backstage crew – stagehands, sound, projections, lighting, makeup, face painting, hair, costumes/seamstresses, catering, publicity/ticketing, marketing and design, sets/props, choreographers, videography, photography, vocal coaches, maintenance/admin, support people – the list goes on and on like Pinocchio's nose.
We would, however, like to make special mention of co directors and producers Sophie Blacker and Tegan Modra, whose love of story and detail brought this show to life. For the full list of thank yous, please pick up a copy of our programme now available at the library. From next week you will also find a shrine to Shrek the Musical at the library, with many of the creative works of art from our production on display for your viewing pleasure. We'd also like to acknowledge Nautilus Arts Centre for the loan of the follow spot, whose contribution was inadvertently omitted from the programme.
But above all, thank you to every person in our community who contributed something to create the magic that was the Cummins Area School Production for 2025. To steal a line from the director’s note, at its core, Shrek the Musical is about friendship, acceptance and love of others and self. See you again in 2027…
The Cummins Area School performance of Shrek the Musical was magnificent & so well done. Our Community is buzzing with the glow of an excellent production which had so many enjoyable aspects. I realize that it is a huge effort from many people including students, staff & volunteers & think it was an excellent way to show what can be done by our school. To see the cast so enjoying their roles & having fun while they presented a great show was a highlight plus the opportunity for gifted individuals to show their talents was indeed a treat. Well done Cummins Area School & thank you.
