On Tuesday, 1st July, our Year 3 and Year 9 students embarked on a meaningful excursion to Miss McFarlane's (Glover's) farm, where they planted over 100 red gum trees. This activity was part of our curriculum focus on environmental restoration and management, perfectly aligning with our Crew values of community, collaboration, and leaving a positive footprint.
The day was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 3 students to bond with their older buddies, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. Together, they contributed to a space in the 100 of Shannon district that holds special meaning within our community, with Miss Bagshaw’s Crew being affectionately known as the "Crew of Shannon", and the land being in Miss McFarlane’s backyard.
With enthusiasm and teamwork, students dug over 100 holes, planted trees, and provided them with water and protection using hand-picked rocks, stakes, and recycled tree guards. It was a hands-on experience that left everyone with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.
After the hard work, students enjoyed a well-deserved treat of damper and marshmallows roasted over the fire, bringing a warm and delightful end to the day.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Caitlin Haarsma and Hayley Ness for volunteering their time and efforts. A special shoutout to Alex Glover for selecting the perfect planting spot, being actively involved throughout the day, and providing essential resources like the water truck and firewood. Our gratitude also goes to Paddy Rowe for nurturing the seedlings, ensuring they were ready for planting, and his bus-karaoke entertainment. And, of course, a special mention to Willow the dog, who charmed everyone with her cuteness and enjoyed the attention all day long.
Overall, it was a positive and wholesome day, reflecting the spirit of our school community and our commitment to giving back to the environment. Thank you to everyone who made this day a success!
