Miss Indiah’s Foundation students are investigating the guiding question “What if we ran out of water?” as part of their learning exhibition.
They are currently in their second case study: “No rain = No crops = No food.” To deepen their understanding, students recently visited Crettenden’s Farm, where they met with local experts, Spog and Michael Crettenden.
On the farm, students discovered the many ways water is used, from sheep troughs and creeks, to the canola paddock to the farm’s fire truck. They also had the chance to quiz Spog and Michael in a Q&A session, asking questions such as:
“What is the dam water used for?”
“What is the tank water used for?”
“Have you ever had a drought?”
“What happens to the crops if you have too much rain?”
The excursion provided plenty of memorable moments and new learning. Here’s what the students had to say:
My favourite part was…
“The header and fire truck.” – Leo
“Jumping in puddles.” – Annabel Q
“Watching the excavator pick up the mud and water from the creek.” – Nate
“Running through the canola.” – Macy
“Playing tag.” – Oliver
“Watching the fire truck make a muddy puddle.” – Zander
“Squirting the water from the fire truck.” – Daphne
"Having a tractor ride." – Lenny
Something I learnt was…
“Sheep drink from the trough.” – Ellie
“When the floaty goes down, there’s enough water in the trough.” – Reni
“We can use the fire truck to put the fire out.” – Levi
“Puddles are from rain and sometimes they evaporate into the sky.” – Lottie
“The water in the creek runs all the way to the sea.” – Nate
“When it rains, it fills up the creek.” – Macy
“If there was a drought, no wheat and barley would be growing.” – Zander
“If you have a drought you might not survive without water.” – Leo
“If there was a drought the animals would not survive.” – Taylah
“If you have a drought the crop would not grow.” – Levi
“Canola needs the most water to grow.” – Jackson
