Exploring Paddock to Plate: Miss Bennie's Year 1/2 Class Discovers Korinya

On Monday, 22nd September, Miss Bennie’s Year 1/2 class visited Korinya Farmgate as part of their Paddock to Plate Learning Expedition. The day was filled with exciting, hands-on experiences that deepened students’ understanding of farming and where our food comes from. They began by milking Apple the cow, discovering how milk is collected and prepared for use, before feeding the playful baby goats and collecting fresh eggs from the chickens. The group saw the automatic teat machine, comparing the process to traditional hand milking, and explored the farm to meet sheep, chickens, a bull, geese and other animals.

A highlight of the visit was learning about regenerative farming practices, which focus on caring for the land and animals in sustainable ways. This linked beautifully to the class focus on Paddock to Plate, helping students see how the food we eat begins its journey on the farm. The excursion provided a rich, real-world learning opportunity, allowing students to connect their classroom knowledge with first-hand experiences of food production, animal care and the importance of looking after our environment.
