Empowering Year 10 and 12 Students with Essential Surf Rescue and Life Support Skills

Earlier this term, both the year 12 & year 10 Outdoor Education students had the opportunity to learn & practice surf rescue skills and life support in coastal & remote locations. This course was run by Marley Fairclough, a local woman with experience as a VAC swim instructor, Outdoor Education teacher, and who is now the regional support coordinator for Surf Life Saving in SA!

Marley worked with the students on building awareness, knowledge & practical skills to help the students become potential life savers and build a stronger & safer community.

The students learnt how to perform different rescues in surf conditions and also support themselves and their potential patients best in a remote setting. Marley has been working along the coastline of EP & Yorke Peninsula with communities affected by the trauma and tragedy of shark attacks amongst other serious incidents, and she has organised the same opportunity for Cummins alongside our local doctors & ambulance team next Monday!

The ‘hands on trauma response workshop’ will be held at the SAAS rooms in Cummins, from 6:00-8:00pm next Monday (23/03/26).

Anyone over the age of 15 is welcome and attendance is free.
