Around the Grounds at CAS

Sapsasa Boys Football

The State Sapsasa Boys Football Carnival was held at Barrett Reserve in Adelaide from Monday 26th to Wednesday 28th May. Cummins Area School has five representatives in the Lower Eyre Peninsula Team – Max Crettenden, Cyril Pedler, Sam Fitzgerald, Beau Dunbar and Zeb Doudle.

The extreme weather with gale force winds, especially on the first day, provided players with many challenges to their skills. It meant that during the 2 x 16 minute halves per match, teams needed to take every opportunity to score when kicking with the wind and had to furiously defend when the opposition was kicking with the wind.

Two of the LEP matches were live streamed on the first day which was very interesting for those not able to attend the carnival in Adelaide.

Thankyou to the parents who transported their boys to Adelaide for the carnival and also thanks to some Cummins parents who helped with jobs during the carnival eg. time keeping.

Thankyou to the coach, Darien Treasure, who has taken on the coaching role for 22 years and to Shane Masson for 7 years as team manager/assistant coach. They have annually taken on a huge extra workload to give our district boys a great football experience.

Sapsasa Cross Country

The Lower Eyre Peninsula Cross Country Team was selected from the local district cross country event earlier this term and Shaylee Britza and Reide Mickan competed in the 12 year old age group. The event took place at Oakbank in Adelaide and 12 year olds ran 3km. This State Carnival held on Thursday 5th June 2025, involved runners from both city and country Sapsasa Districts so participant numbers were high.

Shaylee did extremely well completing the course in 13:00 minutes and was 18th out of 208 runners. Reide ran the 3km course in 14:44 minutes ending up 174th out of 205 runners.

Secondary Cross Country Event

The Secondary Cross Country Event was also held at Oakbank on Thursday 5th June, but differed as runners nominated from their school not chosen from Sapsasa Districts. Kenzie Hancock ran in the 13 girls section and ran the 3km track in 11:59 minutes. She finished a very credible 7th out of 148 runners.

West Coast Cross Country Run – Tcharkuldu Rock

The 48th annual West Coast Cross Country Run was held at Minnipa, Tcharkulda Rock, on Thursday 29th May. Seven students from Cummins Area School participated in the event, which ranged from Year 3 to Year 12. Year 3-6 students ran 3km and the Year 7-12 students ran 5km. Due to the dry conditions, runners were able to run a slightly different course and take in the spectacular view from the top of the rocks.
